At the Motability Annual General Meeting on 2 December, co-founder of the Motability Scheme, Lord Sterling announced that he would be stepping down as Chairman on 1 June 2020. Following this, Lord Sterling will become a Life President of Motability.

Lord Sterling GCVO CBE was co-founder (with the late Lord Goodman) of Motability and has been Chairman of Motability since 1994; he also chairs the Motability Tenth Anniversary Trust.

Lord Sterling’s successor as Chairman will be Charles Manby, who was recently appointed a Governor of Motability.

An Oxford University graduate, Charles has worked in a number of roles throughout his career in London and Paris and retired from Goldman Sachs International in 2017. Charles chaired the development board for the Cancer Research UK campaign, "Create the Change", a voluntary role from 2012 until 2016 and is, or has been, a Trustee and Board member of the following organisations: Muscular Dystrophy UK; Oxford University’s Committee to Review Donations; Innovation Advisory Board, NESTA; Chairman 750th Campaign Board, Merton College; INSEAD UK Council and Shrewsbury School Foundation, and a Board member of GET A/S, a Norwegian broadband and TV company.

Motability is a national charity, incorporated by the Royal Charter in 1977. The Motability Charity aims to support as many disabled people as possible to achieve the right mobility solution.

Whilst the vast majority of Motability Scheme customers use just their mobility allowance to lease the vehicle they require, there are still some who are unable to afford the vehicle, adaptations or driving lessons they need to be able to access the benefits of the Motability Scheme.
